Factor Ideas for change is an international group, specialised in providing global, innovative and sustainable solutions in areas such as climate change, energy, sustainability, trading and innovation.

Factor works on a daily basis with organisations that are committed to a major challenge: climate neutrality. This is still an incipient field of research, so it is necessary to design tools that allow organisations to assess the optimal way to achieve it, and provide criteria to external observers so that they can evaluate the seriousness of the commitments.

We are designing a multi-criteria methodology in this field with the aim of publishing a scientific article. The team is led by Dr. Kepa Solaun, partner and CEO of Factor.

In order to determine which elements, make up this methodology and what their relative value is, we need the collaboration of relevant actors. Therefore, we would like you to take a few minutes to answer these questions so that we can capture your thoughts and ideas. The estimated response time is eight minutes.

The methodology is based on a set of criteria that will be further developed through sub-criteria or key questions.
 
The proposed criteria are as follows:
Strategy and commitment
It is essential that there is a strong commitment backed by a long-term strategy, but with a gradual roll-out over time. In addition, it is important to have an analysis of climate risks and opportunities, which can serve as a basis for decision-making throughout the design of the strategy.

Calculation and scope
Calculation implies a determination of the starting point against which to compare ourselves and it is a prerequisite for any attempt at improvement. The scope and depth of the calculation and its consideration in the neutrality strategy is an essential aspect of any rigorous commitment to neutrality.

Action Plan
A credible carbon neutrality strategy must be accompanied by a specific and quantitative action plan, which assesses costs and benefits and sets out the necessary commitments. Companies should develop a robust climate impact reduction strategy that goes beyond offsetting.

Offsetting
Rigorous offsetting should entail specific requirements with regard to project typologies and their estimated benefits, as well as technical specifications on accepted assets and vintages.

Communication
Companies should open communication channels with stakeholders, and actively disseminate their efforts, providing transparency on objectives, scope of neutrality and offsetting tools. Certification of neutrality is a plus since it ensures a review of all key aspects of the process.
