As part of the EAPC Task Force on Wish to Hasten Death, we would like to invite you to participate in a survey sharing your valuable expertise as an experienced palliative care professional. This will enhance our knowledge of the existing expertise related to this phenomenon among professionals in palliative care across Europe. We greatly thank you in advance for your valuable contribution.

Aim: To describe the current palliative care team health-care professionals’ practical understandings and approach to the wish to hasten death across Europe.

To understand the wish to hasten death (WTHD) we have relied on the consensus statement by Balaguer et al.[1] where the WTHD is defined as a reaction to suffering, in the context of a life-threatening condition, from which the patient can see no way out other than to accelerate his or her death. The WTHD may arise in response to one or more factors, including physical symptoms (either present or foreseen), psychological distress, existential suffering, or social aspects.
